Deluxe knows media.
At Deluxe, we have been working with major film studios for nearly a century — providing a range of services to help them manage and maximize their high-value content. We extend this deep expertise in audio and visual media to content managers and owners across a spectrum of industries beyond entertainment, including 14,500 museums nationwide, a range of not-for-profit organizations and foundations, government agencies, corporations, as well as private collectors.
 |
Our unique understanding of the film format allows us to offer a complete range of services for organizations with large film and media collections. Since our founding in 1915, Deluxe has grown from a single film lab in Hollywood, California to nearly 30 media facilities providing content solutions across the globe. We recognize universities, museums, corporations, government agencies and many other content owners have generated billions of feet of film, hundreds of millions of video tapes, miles of audio recordings, and a vast sum of prints and negatives. Like the major film studios, these varied organizations are recognizing the intrinsic value of their content. They recognize there are solutions for their collections in "need” that fit with their organization's needs. We recognize your needs to plan, fund and develop your archives, and serve as your trusted partner advising you each step of the way.
 |
Our mission is to bring the same level of world class content management solutions normally afforded to Hollywood studios directly to your organization. Whether you manage a collection of 500 or 500,000 elements, Deluxe will work with you to create solutions that allow you to migrate, manage and maximize your media – safely and reliably.

Deluxe was founded in 1915 by William Fox when he created the Fox Film Corporation in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In 1919, Fox Film Corporation opened its studio in Hollywood at Sunset and Western. Deluxe Laboratory was built on the south side of the lot where its Hollywood operation still operates today.
The original plant, consisting of one building with processing and printing operations, has expanded to a high capacity manufacturing plant that is one of several media laboratories worldwide. In 1927 Fox/De Luxe acquired a patent to the sound-on-film process. Eight years later in 1935, the Fox Film Corporation merged with 20th Century Pictures to form 20th Century Fox. 1953 brought the development of Fox/De Luxe's wide screen film format known as CinemaScope.
A Technical Academy Award was awarded to Deluxe in 1961 for decompressing and recomposing CinemaScope pictures for conventional aspect ratios. This was one of a number of Academy Awards, including one in 1972 for the development of a computerized motion picture printer and process control system. Deluxe helped usher in the home video market with large scale videocassette manufacturing in 1972, with its one billionth videocassette produced in 1996.
Deluxe has stayed in the forefront of digital media services to a wide range of organizations. DVD services began in 2000 and further expanded in 2002. This same year, Deluxe opened labs in Rome and Toronto and added Capital FX in London. The following year, Deluxe successfully launched FCT anti-piracy watermarking technology. In 2004, Deluxe Media Management – home of Deluxe Archive Solutions – became the company's center for theatrical film and television solutions. EFILM was acquired in 2004, providing a global leadership position in digital intermediates. During 2004, Deluxe also acquired Deluxe Digital Studios, DVCC and Softitler to create the world's largest DVD compression, encoding and authoring operations.
Today, Deluxe media facilities are located in several Los Angeles locations, Toronto, London, Rome, Florence, Madrid, and Barcelona. A full-service film
and digital facility in New York City is set to open in 2008. Deluxe Archive Solutions brings together Deluxe's world class media services with consulting services to assist archive and collection owners. We will help you meet your organization's goals by developing a migration path for your assets, developing a managed solution for your new digital archive elements, and maximizing access and use according to your charter.
